The proposal is to convert the old 1956 Wensum Factory into 54 lofty apartments.
Located on Northumberland Street, this site is within walking distance of Norwich city centre. Wensum Clothing Plc
operated their tailoring business at the site for many years. In addition to apartments there will be
landscaped gardens, parking, a private lift and individual storage rooms in the basement. The front of the factory
will be converted into serviced office spaces which will include use of the original directors boardroom.
Every effort is being made to offer contemporary living but at the same time retaining the character of the building.
The high ceilings and large windows will create a sense of space. Top floor apartments will incorporate
Mezzanine floors.
Sustainable Development
The developer aims to install solar powered heating to all units, which together with high levels of
insulation, means the apartments should be very cheap to heat. Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
will further reduce heat loss from each apartment. The conversion is not only recycling the existing factory
but the construction is utilising timber wherever possible. The 'on site' offices will
encourage working from home but also residents will be able to walk or cycle into the city centre or make use of the
'car club' on site.
Ingram Homes will build these fine properties on behalf of Ingram Property Trading Limited Partnership.
